My Dreams on Arafah 2011
A person sees a dream/vision and people seek its way to make it come true, this is what makes a crowd of people a nation.
The dream of Prophet Ibraheem (peace be upon him) – sacrifice
The dream of Prophet Yusuf (peace be upon him) – wisdom and management
The vision of Dr. Allama Muhammad Iqbal – political independence (1947)
The vision of Dr. Allama Muhammad Iqbal – global dominance of Islam as the Prophet (pbuh) predicted
The dream of Dr. Martin Luther King – equality and freedom from slavery
The vision of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) – global dominance of Islam as a World Order
Among well-known dreams in the history, two belong to the great prophets, Prophet Ibraheem (a.s.) and Prophet Yusuf (a.s.). These dreams were of the kind that are seen during sleep. The dream of Prophet Ibraheem (peace be upon him) was a big trail from God Almighty while the dream of his grand-grandson Prophet Yusuf (peace be upon him) was a sign of Yusuf’s justice and wisdom. Both dreams did not require the involvement of their followers or common people.
The other two dreams were the vision of two great personalities named Dr. Allama Muhammad Iqbal from the Indian Sub-Continent and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. from USA. These dreams were not the result of the night sleep. They were seen by their seers, each and every moment they lived. Their vision gave hope and life to millions of people around them. Both doctors were not prophets of God, so they knew that alone they cannot achieve their visions. Their vision had to be distributed among their listeners and those who were wise. Their vision became people’s mission and that is how they were transformed into a reality that is still alive.
The Vision of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh): He said, “Verily Allah has shown me the eastern and western part of the earth, and I saw the authority of my Ummah (nation) dominate all that I saw.” - Sahih Muslim
This vision is the domination of Islam as a World Order, which guarantees end of slavery and exploitation and leads to an respectful independent life. This is a Prophet’s vision so it will come true no matter how much resistance will be caused to stop it.
Hadith: Abu Hurairah (May Allah be please with him) reported that Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, “Allah that is left from Prophethood is the glad tidings.” He was asked what the glad tidings were, and he said, “The good dream.” (Sahih Al-Bukhari)

DREAMS OF PROPHETS
Prophet Ibraheem (peace be upon him) saw in a dream for three nights that he is sacrificing his son Ismaeel to please Allah (SWT). After consultation with his son, they both agreed to make it come true, if this is God’s Will. They both reached the place of sacrifice (at Mina). When Ibraheem (pbuh) was about to slaughter his son, Angel Jibraeel (Gabriel) appeared and told him that God is pleased with their sacrifice and ask them to slaughter a ram instead. They both were chosen and God raised their ranks high in this world and in the Hereafter.
“My Lord! Give me a righteous son.” (said Ibraheem) – We therefore gave him the glad tiding of a son (ready to suffer and fore-bearer. And when he became capable of working with him, Ibraheem said, “O my son, I dreamt that I am sacrificing you, now what is your view?” He (Ismaeel) said, “O my father! Do what you are commanded! Allah willing, you will soon find me patiently enduring!” So when they both submitted their wills to Allah’s command, and Ibraheem laid his son down on his forehead.”
“We called out to him, “O Ibraheem! You have indeed made the dream come true”; and this is how We reward the virtuous. Indeed this was a clear test. And We rescued him in exchange of a great sacrifice. And We kept his praise among the latter generations. Peace be upon Ibraheem! This is how We reward the virtuous. He is indeed one of Our high-ranking, firmly believing bondmen.” …. Surah Saffaat/Drawn Up in Ranks 100-111
Prophet Yusuf/Joseph (peace be upon him), the grand-grandson of Prophet Ibraheem (peace be upon him) saw a dream that the sun, moon and stars prostrate before him.
“Behold! Joseph said to his father: “O my father! I did see eleven stars and the sun and the moon: I saw them prostrate themselves to me!”... Surah Yusuf/Joseph 4
His father Prophet Yaqoob (peace be upon him) told him not to reveal his dream to his brothers because they might hurt him of jealousy. His brother dropped him down in a bucket into a well. He was then released by a caravan and was sent to Egypt. There he was enslaved by a minister and suffered a long prison due to minister’s wife’s ill-desires. Years after, the King of Egypt saw a dream about cows. Prophet Yusuf interpreted his dream as a strategy to face the famine ahead.
“O Yusuf!, O man of truth! Expound to us the dream of seven fat kine whom seven lean ones devour, and of seven green ears of corn and seven other withered: that I may return to the people, and that they may understand.”
“Yusuf said: For seven years shall you diligently sow as is your wont: and the harvests that you reap, you shall leave them in the ear, except a little, of which you shall eat. Then will come after that seven dreadful years, which will devour what you shall have laid by in advance for them, except a little which you shall have guarded. Then will come after that a year in which the people will have abundant water, and in which they will press (wine and oil). Surah Yusuf 46-49
Prophet Yusuf was then made the King of the Egypt due to his honesty and wisdom. His dream became a reality as his father and brothers prostrated before him in the royal court.
“Then when they entered the presence of Joseph, he provided a home for his parents with himself, and said: “Enter ye Egypt (all) in safety if it please Allah”…. And he raised his parents high on the throne and they fell down in prostration before him. He said: ”O my father! this is the fulfillment of my vision of old! Allah has made it come true! He was indeed good to me when He took me out of prison and brought you all here out of the desert, even after Satan had sown enmity between me and my brothers. Verily my Lord understands best the mysteries of all that He plans to do, for verily He is full of knowledge and wisdom.”.… Surah Yusuf/Joseph 99-100
VISION OF COMMON PEOPLE
Dr. Allama Muhammad Iqbal also saw a dream too. He didn’t live to see that it came true just nine years after his death. But he died as a successful man. His dream was named Pakistan, a home for 180 million people now.
Selection from his Presidential Address in 1930:
“You are a Muslim assembly and, I suppose, anxious to remain true to the spirit and ideals of Islam. My sole desire, therefore, is to tell you frankly what I honestly believe to be the truth about the present situation. In this way alone it is possible for me to illuminate, according to my light, the avenues of your political action.
One lesson I have learnt from the history of Muslims. At critical moments in their history it is Islam that has saved Muslims and not vice versa. If today you focus your vision on Islam and seek inspiration from the ever-vitalising idea embodied in it, you will be only reassembling your scattered forces, regaining your lost integrity, and thereby saving yourself from total destruction. One of the profoundest verses in the Holy Quran teaches us that the birth and rebirth of the whole of humanity is like the birth and rebirth of a single individual. Why cannot you who, as a people, can well claim to be the first practical exponents of this superb conception of humanity, live and move and have your being as a single individual? I do not wish to mystify anybody when I say that things in India are not what they appear to be. The meaning of this, however, will dawn upon you only when you have achieved a real collective ego to look at them. In the words of the Quran, “Hold fast to yourself; no one who earth can hurt you, provided you are well guided” (5:104).“
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. had a series of dreams. He didn’t live to see that they all came true one by one. So he died as a successful man. His dreams were freedom and equality, which led America to be a great land.
Excerpt from his famous speech “I have a dream”:
“And even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream. I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.”
I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia, the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood.
I have a dream that one day even the state of Mississippi, a state sweltering with the heat of injustice, sweltering with the heat of oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice.
I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.
I have a dream today! I have a dream that one day, down in Alabama, with its vicious racists, with its governor having his lips dripping with the words of “interposition” and nullification” — one day right there in Alabama little black boys and black girls will be able to join hands with little white boys and white girls as sisters and brothers.
I have a dream today! I have a dream that one day every valley shall be exalted, and every hill and mountain shall be made low, the rough places will be made plain, and the crooked places will be made straight; “and the glory of the Lord be revealed and all flesh shall see it together.”
With this faith, we will be able to hew out of the mountain of despair a stone of hope. With this faith, we will be able to transform the jangling discords of our nation into a beautiful symphony of brotherhood. With this faith, we will be able to work together, to pray together, to struggle together, to go to jail together, to stand up for freedom together, knowing that we will be free one day.”
The great man’s strong words that he delivered on April 3, 1968, a day before his murder. ”We’ve got some difficult days ahead. But it doesn’t matter with me now. Because I’ve been to the mountaintop. And I don’t mind. Like anybody, I would like to live a long life. Longevity has its place. But I’m not concerned about that now. I just want to do God’s will. And He’s allowed me to go up to the mountain. And I’ve looked over. And I’ve seen the promised land. I may not get there with you. But I want you to know tonight, that we, as a people, will get to the promised land. And I’m happy, tonight. I’m not worried about anything. I’m not fearing any man. Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord.” These are the most beautiful words said by any leader in last fifty years.
